2008 Komen Volunteer & Team Captain Appreciation
The Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently honored its volunteers and Race for the Cure team captains at the annual Volunteer and Team Captain Appreciation Awards, held this year at the Crevier Classic Cars Event Center in Costa Mesa. Special recognition was given to six outstanding individuals, a group of volunteers and several others throughout Orange County who have shown exceptional hard work and dedication to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure promise to end breast cancer forever.
More than 270 people gathered in celebration, including Race for the Cure participants and teams, volunteers and their family members. Beyond the Race for the Cure, which raised more than $3.1 million this year in September, volunteers also assist the Komen Orange County Affiliate in a variety of functions, including administrative office support, Pink Tie Ball, Breast Health Symposium, and third party events, among others.

Race 2008 Top Individual Fundraiser, Lauren Heller, Newport Beach: A breast cancer survivor, Lauren was given this award for the second year in a row; she raised $50,030.
Several teams involved in Race for the Cure were honored during the evening, including:

The Boeing Company with the most money raised overall at $62,233

The United States Postal Service’s largest overall team with 1412 team members
